In order to benefit from maximum protection and comfort when practicing your sporting activity, there is nothing like a good gym mat. From the simple fitness mat to the professional gymnastics mattress, discover our advice for choosing the right mat for your practice.
Fitness floor mat
Are you looking for a gym mat on which you can comfortably do your fitness exercises on the floor (abs, buttocks, knee push-ups, elbow workouts, flexibility exercises, yoga exercises, etc.)? There are different models of fitness mats, choose them according to your use.
THICK GYM MATS
If you are primarily looking for comfort, then opt for a thick floor mat. “Transportable” models generally have a thickness of between 6 and 15 mm. Suffice to say that on a hard tile-type floor, the 15 mm carpet offers real comfort. Please note that depending on the brand, it is the density of the foam that will give the carpet a more or less pronounced softness. Additionally, thick models roll out much better than thinner rugs, which tend to retain curved edges.
Disadvantage of thick fitness mats: their weight. Often weighing more than 1 kg, compared to less than 200 grams for some thinner gym mats, and also bulky, they are not practical to transport. Therefore preferred for equipping yourself at home.
FOLDABLE FITNESS MATS
If you are looking for a space-saving gymnastics mat that you can take everywhere with you, then opt for a foldable model. Generally foldable into 4 or 6, these fitness mats are very practical to transport or store at home. Indeed, for a 180-cm mat foldable into six sections, you obtain a folded width of 30 cm. In addition, some models have handles to make them easier to transport.
NON-SLIP FLOOR MATS
Depending on their composition, gym mats adhere more or less to the floors on which they are used. If you do your exercises on tiles or slippery surfaces, opt for an elastomer foam mat. Certainly more expensive and heavier than foam or fabric models, non-slip mats will ensure maximum comfort and safety when carrying out your exercises.
GYM MATS FOR SPORTS ROOMS
Are you the manager of a fitness room and are you looking for quality mats for your members, combining comfort, resistance, ease of cleaning and storage? Opt for washable mats, made of resistant, tear-resistant foam, equipped with eyelets to hang them on a wall rack.
YOGA MATS
A yoga mat must be comfortable enough to be able to maintain positions supported on the elbows or knees for several minutes, but not too soft either in order to maintain maximum stability during balance postures. Furthermore, it must insulate well from the ground, especially if it is cold and provides the good grip in order to avoid slipping when holding your hands or feet apart.
Specific gymnastics mats
Beyond the classic fitness mats, there are specific models, designed for children or experienced gymnasts, whether for gymnastics practice at home or in a community.
