Whether it’s a separate room, a space in the kitchen or near the living room, here’s how to arrange your dining room.
The dining room is a friendly space where you share family meals at lunch and/or dinner. This is also where you welcome your friends or colleagues to share a friendly moment. It is a living space just like the living room or the kitchen. It is therefore necessary to feel good there. We’ll explain how to arrange it properly.
Choose where to place your dining room
Depending on the space at your disposal, the dining room can be a room in itself. The most common is to place it in continuity with the kitchen or living room. A dining area as an extension of the one where we concoct them or the place where we digest them is always an effective arrangement. Remember to carefully evaluate the space before purchasing and installing your furniture. The passage should not be obstructed by a table that is too large, especially if it is placed right in the middle. The dining room is a welcoming place and should not become a nuisance in your daily life.
Demarcate the spaces
If you install your dining room as an extension of another room and it is open, remember to demarcate the two spaces. To do this, there is no need for work or long and laborious redevelopment. Just invest in a strong piece. A screen, a bookcase or an object of art will do the trick in addition to giving real personality to your interior decoration. You can also decide to place your table along a low wall or use the living room sofa as a boundary. Choose one style on one side and a completely different style on the other. The main thing is that the break is clear at first glance.
Choose the right lighting
At the dining room table, we have lunch or dinner. You must therefore be able to see what you put in your mouth. Unlike the bedroom, for example, the lighting in the dining room should not be drowsy. If you can, place your table and chairs in an axis that allows good natural light during the day thanks to a window. Otherwise, choose lights to hang from the ceiling or place on the floor or low furniture to maintain solid brightness without being harsh on the eyes.
Select your table
This is THE piece that will determine your entire dining room. It is therefore important to choose it carefully. Depending on the capacity of your space, it will be rather large or rather small, rather square or rather round. To save space, there are modular or “extending” tables which come in their smallest format and can extend depending on the number of guests at the table. For the material, the most common is wood. Not only does it easily coordinate with the rest of the elements in the room, but it is also easy to maintain. You can obviously opt for models in other materials, such as glass for example. But they will require more maintenance and attention to prevent it from getting damaged or broken.
Add storage
To make your dining room even more welcoming, add storage. Placing a large storage unit in your dining space also gives it dynamism. This is the ideal place to place a large dresser, a culinary bookcase or a cabinet of drawers. You can store everything you need at the table there: extra cutlery, serving dishes, table linen (tablecloth, napkins, placemats). These pieces of furniture will also be decorative supports for your lamps, your family photos or your candles.
